Aurea came to the United States after she believed her husband, Jose' Antonio Arroyo, had died.  She came here with her son, Jose' Antonio Arroyo Rivera and Cyntia Arroyo. They settled in New York where her brother, Julio Rivera, helped them establish a new life outside of their native Puerto Rico. Jose' and Cyntia went to live in boarding school where they learned the language.
